Netherlands prosecution targets tractors on highways

The Dutch Public Prosecution Service (OM) has announced a strict stance against driving tractors and other agricultural vehicles on highways. The OM clarified that such actions are prohibited and can lead to fines or criminal prosecution, including for those driving with obscured license plates.

This decision follows recent controversies regarding the management of farmer protests. The move comes after a fatal incident on the A59 near Heesch, where a traffic jam caused by tractors resulted in two deaths and six injuries. While police in East Brabant had previously indicated they would not intervene against tractors on highways due to the right to protest, both the police and the prosecution have now announced a review of their previous conduct.
