Europe weather shifts from summer heat to autumn storms

Europe is experiencing a significant seasonal weather transition as summer temperatures give way to unsettled autumn conditions. In the Netherlands, a warm start to the week with temperatures reaching up to 29 degrees Celsius is expected to be followed by a sharp decline. From Tuesday, increased cloud cover, rain, and stronger winds will bring cooler temperatures, typically ranging between 17 and 20 degrees Celsius.

In Spain, an Atlantic front is triggering the first autumn storms. While heat remains in the south, Galicia and the Mediterranean coast face heavy rain, thunderstorms, and significant temperature drops. The Spanish state weather service, Aemet, has issued various warnings, including orange alerts for thunderstorms in certain regions.

In Belgium, the summer of 2026 has set a new record, with average temperatures in Ukkel reaching 20.3 degrees Celsius for the June-August period, surpassing the previous record from 2018.
