NOAA forecasts increased geomagnetic activity for late October 2026
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC) have issued forecasts for increased geomagnetic activity between October 23 and October 26, 2026.
On October 25, the Kp index is expected to reach a maximum of 3.67, with peak activity predicted between 09:00 and 12:00 and again between 15:00 and 18:00 Bulgarian time. While activity is elevated, these levels remain below the threshold for a G1-category magnetic storm, which requires a Kp index of 5.
For October 26, forecasts indicate continued elevated activity but with lower intensity. The SWPC predicts a Kp index of 2, while Meteoagent estimates a value of 2.7. Experts note that geomagnetic conditions are highly dependent on solar flares and solar wind speeds, requiring daily updates as conditions can change rapidly.
