NOAA forecasts increased geomagnetic activity for October 14, 2026
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has forecasted increased geomagnetic activity for Wednesday, October 14, 2026. While primary calculations do not predict a formal magnetic storm, experts warn of potential short-term geomagnetic disturbances.
The Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC) expects the planetary geomagnetic Kp index to reach a maximum value of 4. This level indicates elevated activity but remains below the Kp 5 threshold required to classify a G1-category weak magnetic storm. Specific probabilities for the day include a 35% chance of active geomagnetic conditions and a 25% chance of a weak magnetic storm.
Peak activity is anticipated between 06:00 and 09:00 UTC, when the Kp index may hit 4. Experts note that conditions can change rapidly depending on solar flares and solar wind speeds directed toward Earth.
