Nutritionists discuss egg consumption for weight loss and cholesterol

Nutritional experts are addressing the popularity of egg-based weight loss trends and the impact of daily egg consumption on health. While social media trends suggest significant weight loss through egg-centric diets, nutritionists warn against relying on a single food source. Instead, they recommend incorporating eggs as a high-quality protein source alongside fiber-rich vegetables, whole grains, and complex carbohydrates to maintain a balanced diet and promote satiety.

Regarding cholesterol concerns, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Trong Hung from the National Institute of Nutrition notes that healthy individuals can consume one egg per day. While egg yolks contain cholesterol, they also provide essential nutrients such as choline, lecithin, vitamins A, B6, B12, D, and omega-3 fatty acids. The health impact depends heavily on preparation methods; boiled eggs are nutritionally different from eggs fried in butter or served with processed meats like bacon and sausage, which increase saturated fat and calorie intake. Individuals with fatty liver or lipid disorders should monitor their consumption more closely.
