Pakistan pursues power sector reforms and Dutch investment

Pakistan's Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Muhammad Aurangzeb, is spearheading efforts to reform the nation's power sector and strengthen international economic ties. During a Steering Committee meeting, officials discussed advancing a regulatory framework designed to encourage private-sector participation, competition, and investment in areas such as solar energy and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).

The reforms aim to address structural challenges, including legacy capacity obligations, changing grid-demand patterns, and service quality. Discussions included the potential separation of network and supply functions to improve efficiency and financial sustainability.

In a separate engagement, Minister Aurangzeb met with a Dutch business delegation led by the Founders Carbon Network to discuss investment opportunities. The meeting, attended by Dutch Ambassador Robert-Jan Siegert, focused on building commercial links in sectors such as agriculture, housing, and emerging technologies. Aurangzeb noted that Pakistan's foreign exchange reserves have reached a reported record high of $21.4 billion, covering approximately three months of imports.
