Romania advances major motorway projects including A0 Nord opening

Romania is advancing several major transport infrastructure projects. A key development is the opening of 13 kilometers of the A0 Nord motorway (Lots 3 and 4) around October 20, 2026. This connection between the A3 and A2 motorways aims to divert transit traffic away from the heavily congested Bucharest Ring Road, facilitating faster movement between major regions and the Port of Constanța.

Other significant road projects include the A7 motorway, where work is progressing on the Bacău-Pașcani sector with hopes of opening nearly 50 kilometers by the end of the year. On the A1 motorway, the Margina-Holdea section has reached approximately 70-80% physical completion, with major work ongoing on tunnels and viaducts. Additionally, the Sibiu-Pitești motorway is entering a new phase as environmental agreements are being revised to allow full-scale construction in mountainous sectors.

The government's broader infrastructure program targets over 2,000 km of motorways and expressways by 2028, alongside the rehabilitation of 500 km of railways and a 900 million euro investment in the Port of Constanța. Local projects also include cadastral services for a new bypass in Zărnești and urban improvements such as raised pedestrian crossings in Bucharest's Sector 3.
