Romania advances major rail and highway infrastructure projects
Romania is undergoing extensive infrastructure modernization across its rail and road networks. On the railway front, electrification and rehabilitation works on the Cluj-Napoca-Oradea-Episcopia Bihor line are progressing, with the Cluj-Napoca-Aghireș and Aghireș-Poieni sections reaching over 76% completion. Additionally, railway modernization continues at the Port of Constanța to increase transit capacity, with Stage I reaching 89% completion.
Major highway projects are also advancing. On the A1 motorway, beam installation has begun on the longest passage of the Margina-Holdea section, which crosses the Lugoj-Ilia railway. Meanwhile, the A13 Sibiu-Făgăraș highway shows steady progress across its four lots, with some sections potentially opening ahead of schedule. The Transylvania Motorway (A3) also sees significant work on viaducts. In Bucharest, tram line modernization is underway on Lot 1, covering 14 of the 18 planned kilometers, despite challenges with underground utilities and soil quality. Furthermore, a new access road for the GREENFIELD Băneasa development is progressing toward its planned connection to the capital's northern mobility axes.
