Romania implements new road safety, taxation, and infrastructure projects

Romania is implementing several infrastructure and economic updates. The National Company for Road Infrastructure Administration (CNAIR) is moving forward with a project for fixed speed radars, expected to be operational by autumn 2027. Additionally, CNAIR has launched a road safety campaign, noting that traffic accidents have become a leading cause of death among young people, surpassing deaths from tuberculosis and drug use.

Regarding road taxation, the Electronic Road Pricing System (STRR) and TollRo for heavy goods vehicles (over 3.5 tons) are scheduled for infrastructure implementation by August 31, 2026, with actual tariff application beginning on October 1, 2026. Interoperability with other EU member states is expected by January 15, 2027.

In the financial sector, Romanian government bond yields decreased following Moody’s decision to maintain the country’s investment rating. Finance Minister Alexandru Nazare noted that high investor demand during recent auctions signals increased confidence in Romania’s financing capacity.

In Constanţa, the County Council has signed a financing contract for a new EUR 23 million aquarium at the Natural Sciences Museum Complex, with a projected completion date of December 2029.
