Saab secures defense contracts with Finland and the Netherlands
Saab has secured defense contracts with Finland and the Netherlands to provide advanced military capabilities. Finland has ordered the RBS 70 NG air defence system, a deal valued at approximately SEK 1.2 billion ($125.9 million).
The RBS 70 NG is a short-range, ground-to-air system designed to counter low-altitude threats, including aircraft, helicopters, and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). The modernized system features improved sighting capabilities, automatic target tracking, and night-time engagement abilities. It utilizes laser beam guidance, making it more resistant to electronic jamming compared to traditional radio frequency systems. The BOLIDE missile used in the system can reach speeds of approximately Mach 2 with an interception range exceeding 9 kilometers.
In addition to the air defence systems, the Netherlands has selected Saab to provide Barracuda camouflage technology. The Finnish contract also includes ammunition, training equipment, spare parts, and maintenance systems, with the goal of having the new capabilities fully operational by the end of the 2020s.
