Skolkovo Institute study identifies theoretical human lifespan limits

Researchers from the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology and AIRI have conducted a study regarding the theoretical limits of human lifespan. Using a model to simulate the removal of the aging process, the researchers concluded that there are physical biological limits to longevity, estimating a maximum age between 146 and 194 years.

The study identifies the accumulation of small genetic mutations within cells as a primary factor in setting these natural limits. As these mutations increase over time, they weaken cellular function and raise the risk of disease.

Furthermore, the research highlights that different organs age at different rates. While organs like the skin and liver possess the ability to regenerate cells and repair damage, the brain and heart are significantly less capable of replacing damaged cells, representing a major obstacle to extreme longevity.
