Spain's pig farming sector advances digital transformation
The Spanish pig farming sector is undergoing a significant digital transformation, as highlighted by recent studies and technological advancements. A comparative analysis conducted between 2022 and 2025, supported by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA) and Grupo Cooperativo Cajamar, examines the evolution of technological proactivity, digital tool usage, process automation, and training within the industry.
Complementing this digital shift, the Spanish Pig Data Bank (BDporc), managed by the Institute of Agri-food Research and Technology (IRTA), has launched a new digital platform. This updated tool is designed to enhance technical-productive analysis and decision-making for pig farms. The platform provides objective, comparable data from hundreds of farms, including both white pig and Iberian pig sectors, allowing producers to evaluate their performance against industry benchmarks and identify areas for improvement.
