TotalEnergies acquires Shell’s European onshore renewable portfolio

Shell agreed to sell its on‑shore renewable‑energy portfolio in Europe to French energy group TotalEnergies. The deal covers roughly 500 MW of solar and wind assets already operating or under construction, mainly in Italy and the Netherlands, and a development pipeline of about 3.5 GW of solar, wind and battery‑storage projects in Italy, the United Kingdom and Spain. The transaction is expected to close by the end of 2026, subject to regulatory approval, and the financial terms were not disclosed. In a related transaction, TotalEnergies will sell a 50 % stake in a 1.2 GW portfolio of on‑shore wind and solar assets located in Germany, Spain, France and Poland to U.S. investment firm KKR for an enterprise value of €1.8 billion. After the acquisitions, TotalEnergies’ renewable capacity in Europe will total about 9‑10 GW installed or under construction, with a pipeline of roughly 27 GW.
