TotalEnergies to acquire Shell's European onshore renewables portfolio
Shell has agreed to sell its onshore renewable energy portfolio in Europe to TotalEnergies. The assets include roughly 500 MW of operating or under‑construction solar and wind projects, mainly in Italy and the Netherlands, and a development pipeline of about 3.5 GW of solar, wind and battery‑storage projects across Italy, the United Kingdom and Spain, bringing the total transaction size to around 4 GW.
In a separate but linked deal, TotalEnergies will sell a 50 % stake in a 1.2 GW portfolio of mature onshore solar and wind assets to investment firm KKR for an enterprise value of €1.8 billion. Both transactions are subject to regulatory approval and are expected to close by the end of 2026.
The acquisitions will raise TotalEnergies' European renewable capacity to roughly 9‑10 GW of installed or under‑construction assets, with an additional 27 GW in the pipeline, supporting its Integrated Power strategy. Shell is shifting its focus away from direct renewable investments toward its core oil, gas and energy‑trading businesses.
