Traditional Chinese Medicine and its historical evolution
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Ayurveda share foundational philosophies regarding the flow of vital life force, despite their distinct cultural origins. TCM utilizes the meridian (Jing-Luo) network to transport Qi, while Ayurveda employs the Nadi system to circulate Prana. Both traditions view health as the unobstructed movement of energy and disease as the result of stagnation.
While the roots of Chinese medical practices are ancient, the standardized system known as TCM is a relatively modern development. The current framework was mandated by the Chinese government in the 1950s to create a scientific, standardized approach. This process involved formalizing academic training and removing certain mystical elements from the previously pluralistic landscape of herbalists, shamans, and regional practitioners.
