Ukraine requests 2 billion euro budget acceleration from Netherlands

Ukraine has requested that the Netherlands release 2 billion euros from its existing military support budget ahead of schedule. Andriy Kostin, Ukraine’s Ambassador to the Netherlands, stated that the request is not for additional funding, but rather to accelerate the use of funds already allocated for future years. The Netherlands currently earmarks 3 billion euros annually for Ukrainian military assistance.

The requested funds are intended to address urgent defense needs, specifically for air defense systems to counter Russian ballistic and hypersonic missiles, missiles for F-16 fighter jets, and the production of drone interception systems. Kostin noted that while F-16s are vital, they require additional support, including maintenance, training, and specialized munitions, to be fully effective.

This request comes as the Dutch government undergoes budget negotiations. Dutch Defense Minister Dilan Yeşilgöz-Zegerius previously indicated that the country has reached its capacity for direct military support, noting that the Netherlands has already done much of what it can and calling on other nations to assist Kyiv.
