2026 Brazilian Ocean Championship

Overview

The Associação Brasileira de Veleiros de Oceano (ABVO) has introduced a new format for the 2026 Brazilian Ocean Championship. This format will unite four national ocean sailing classes—ORC, Bra-RGS, RGS-Cruiser, and RGS-Clássicos—and utilizes a progressive scoring system to prevent early title decisions. The championship is scheduled to begin on October 22 with the 76th Santos-Rio Regatta, followed by the 57th Rio Circuit from October 30 to November 2.

In preparation for these events, the Inaê Soto40 Transbrasa sailing team, led by Bayard Umbuzeiro Neto, underwent maintenance on its hull, mast, and sails to compete under the ORC performance measurement system. Following this hiatus, the team returned to competition during the third stage of the Copa Mitsubishi in Ilhabela.

During the Ilhabela regattas, the crew tested new personnel combinations and role rotations, including having the bowman take control of the helm. Commander Bayard Umbuzeiro Neto expressed satisfaction with the crew’s adaptability, noting that the rotation demonstrated the team’s ability to fill any position on the boat. In the three races completed, the team secured fourth place in the ORC Performance class and seventh place in the overall ORC classification. These tests serve as further preparation for the upcoming 200-mile Santos–Rio Regatta, which requires high levels of crew rotation and responsibility sharing.
