2026 Brazilian presidential election endorsements

Overview

As the second round of the 2026 Brazilian presidential election approaches, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has received high-profile endorsements focused on the defense of democratic institutions. He faces Senator Flávio Bolsonaro in a decisive runoff. Former federal deputy and journalist Joice Hasselmann, a former ally of Jair Bolsonaro, announced her decision to vote for Lula, citing the need to preserve democracy and alleging political persecution. In a significant shift, Paula Zambelli Salgado, a law professor and sister of former federal deputy Carla Zambelli, also declared her support for Lula to defend the Constitution.

International figures such as Madonna, Bella Hadid, Mark Ruffalo, and Julian Assange have also mobilized support. Domestic celebrity endorsements have continued to grow; actress and presenter Maisa Silva shared her vote on social media, while singer Ivete Sangalo cast her vote in Salvador. Other notable Brazilian figures voicing support for Lula’s reelection include presenter Eliana and musician Max Cavalera. Meanwhile, influencer Rico Melquiades expressed disappointment regarding the election results, stating plans to move to Portugal. In Maués, Mayor Macelly Veras emphasized the importance of democratic participation as citizens cast ballots for both the presidency and state governorship.
