2026 BWF French Open women’s singles tournament

Overview

South Korean badminton star An Se-young secured her third consecutive French Open title at the BWF World Tour Super 750 tournament in Paris. In the women’s singles final, the world No. 1 overcame India’s PV Sindhu with a 2-1 scoreline (16-21, 21-11, 21-12).

Although Sindhu won the opening game, marking only the second time in their 11 career meetings that she won a game against the South Korean, An Se-young dominated the subsequent sets to extend her winning streak to 50 matches. This victory marks An’s 11th title of the 2026 season and brings her 2026 season record to 66 wins and only one loss. The win at the Arena Grand Paris represents her fourth overall French Open championship and her 48th career international singles title, setting a new record for the most women’s singles titles since 1999.

Following the 61-minute match, which extended An’s head-to-head record against Sindhu to 11-0, Sindhu expressed that while she was pleased with her performance, there is “significant room for improvement.” She noted the necessity of maintaining “100% intensity on every point” when competing against top-tier athletes. For Sindhu, the world No. 11, the runner-up finish marks her second Super 750 final of the year, following her victory at the Japan Open in July. She reached the final after defeating Hina Akechi in the semifinals, but fell short of becoming the first Indian woman to win this event since 1998.

Despite her success, An Se-young reported feeling physically and mentally fatigued following a demanding European tour. She is currently considering her participation in the upcoming Korea Open in Yeosu, as she weighs the need for recovery and injury management regarding a recent Achilles tendon issue.
