2026 Mediterranean Games men's water polo

The 2026 Mediterranean Games in Taranto, Italy, have commenced with various men’s water polo results. Prior to the games, the Italian national team, the Settebello, won a preparatory quadrangular tournament in Herceg Novi, Montenegro, finishing first ahead of Montenegro, France, and China.

During the Mediterranean Games, the Serbian men’s team began their campaign with a 32:1 victory over Slovenia. Despite the high score, Serbian coach Dejan Savić expressed dissatisfaction with the performance. Serbia is set to face Montenegro, who recently defeated Greece 16:14, to determine the top of Group A.

Greece has since secured its first victory of the tournament with a 22:9 win over Slovenia. Following this, the Greek men’s water polo team suffered a 5:15 loss to Serbia.

In the medal rounds, Serbia secured a bronze medal after defeating Spain with a score of 12:8 in the third-place match. Team selector Vladimir Vujasinović noted that while gold was the primary goal, the bronze is a “significant achievement” and highlighted the dedication shown by players over the previous two months.

Beyond water polo, Greek athletes have achieved broader success at the games. In rowing, Evangelia Anastasiadou, Stefanos Doukos, and Zoë Fitsiou have each secured gold medals. In tennis, the women’s doubles team of Martha Matoula and Eleni Korokozidou won gold by defeating the Italian duo. Additionally, the women’s handball team earned a bronze medal after defeating Algeria 29:25, and the women’s 4x100m relay team took silver in athletics.
