In the general rankings, Estonia was identified as the top destination with a score of 72.8, followed by Singapore (72.6) and Malaysia (72.0). Other top-ten nations include Portugal, Taiwan, Lithuania, Hong Kong, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Czechia, and Malta.

In a specific category for retirement, Malaysia was ranked as the world’s best retirement destination for 2026, scoring 75.8 out of 100. It placed ahead of Panama, which ranked second, and Portugal, which ranked third. Malaysia’s performance in this category was driven by its affordable cost of living, healthcare access, and financial advantages regarding the treatment of foreign income, alongside the Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) program. While Southeast Asia showed strong regional performance with Thailand and the Philippines also appearing in the top 10, the report noted that Malaysia could improve in areas such as road safety and law enforcement.
