Indonesia child protection initiatives

In early August 2026, Indonesian authorities rolled out a series of child‑protection programmes across several provinces. In West Java, the provincial department for women, children and family planning organised the Festival Kreasi Budaya Anak during National Child Day, featuring cultural performances and competitions for nearly 900 children, with the aim of strengthening child rights and preserving regional culture. At the same time, officials in Barito Selatan, Central Kalimantan launched a safe‑space programme for women and children, focusing on violence prevention through community education and multi‑stakeholder collaboration.

Later that day, the Partai Kebangkitan Bangsa (PKB) led a national effort to improve child‑friendly standards in Islamic boarding schools (pesantren). A gathering in Malang, East Java, brought together hundreds of pesantren caretakers to develop SOPs for preventing bullying and sexual abuse, extending a programme that had previously been held in Yogyakarta, Makassar, West Java and Palembang. Together, these actions illustrate a coordinated push by Indonesian governments and political parties to embed child‑protection measures in cultural, community and educational settings nationwide.
