Violence against healthcare workers in Spain

Recent incidents of violence against healthcare professionals have been reported in the Castilla-La Mancha region of Spain.

On August 8, a doctor at the Hospital Universitario Mancha Centro in Alcázar de San Juan was assaulted by a patient during a clinical history assessment. While the physician did not sustain physical injuries, the attack caused significant emotional impact. Medical unions CESM CLM and CSIF condemned the incident, calling for a “zero tolerance” policy and increased security measures.

Following this, a nurse at the Agudo health center in Ciudad Real was physically injured while intervening to protect a patient from a verbal and physical domestic dispute. The nurse, a professional with 35 years of experience, sustained bruises to her eye, chin, collarbone, arms, and legs after being struck with punches and kicks. The assailant, who reportedly has mental health issues, was subdued by others and detained by the Guardia Civil. The nurse has filed a formal complaint and obtained a restraining order. The nursing union SATSE and the Agudo City Council have both condemned the attack, calling for better protection for healthcare workers.
