Iran-US-Israel military and diplomatic conflict

Overview

Tensions between Iran, the United States, and Israel have escalated amid ongoing military conflict. During a Pentagon ceremony marking the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks, U.S. President Donald Trump defended military actions against Iran, labeling the nation the “principal sponsor of terrorism in the world” and vowing to prevent it from acquiring nuclear weapons.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ismail Bagaei responded by calling the use of 9/11 commemorations to justify war “absolutely absurd,” noting that the 2001 attackers were not Iranian. Iranian officials also accused the U.S. of using chemical agents during a strike on Lamerd that killed at least 21 people. The conflict has reportedly resulted in over 3,400 deaths, including high-ranking officials and Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

Expanding on these grievances at the 18th BRICS Summit, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian accused the United States and Israel of practicing “state terrorism” and attacking civilian populations in Gaza, Lebanon, Syria, and Iran. Pezeshkian criticized Western powers for double standards, arguing they promote terrorism through the excessive use of military technology while claiming to fight it.
