2026 Vuelta a España cycling competition

The 2026 Vuelta a España concluded with Enric Mas of Movistar securing the overall general classification title, marking his first Grand Tour victory. Mas finished 2 minutes and 15 seconds ahead of Primož Roglič, who took second place.

Roglič, who faced a challenging preparation period following a collision with a car in July, remained a primary contender throughout the race. He expressed satisfaction with his performance, stating that he views the second-place finish as a victory given the difficulty of the royal stages and the effort exerted.

Individual performances included a notable showing by Jakob Omrzel of Bahrain Victorious. After securing a solo victory during the 12th stage mountain climb to Calar Alto, Omrzel finished seventh in the overall standings, an achievement that saw him climb 114 places in the UCI world rankings. He described the 20th stage as the ‘most brutal of his career.’

The final stage in Granada was largely ceremonial, with organizers neutralizing the final rounds due to safety concerns. Tobias Halland Johannessen of the Uno-X team claimed the stage victory by winning a sprint against Alessandro Romelevan of XDS-Astana, with Ramses Debruyne finishing third.

Following the race, updates emerged regarding Slovenian cyclists. While Roglič and Omrzel saw success, Tadej Pogačar has begun rehabilitation after being forced to end his season early due to a severe crash during the Vuelta. Having sustained a concussion, a fractured clavicle, and a cervical vertebra fracture, Pogačar has returned to indoor training on a stationary bike. His team, UAE Team Emirates-XRG, is managing a progressive recovery aimed at a 2027 return.
