Audi Formula 1 project development

Audi’s Formula 1 project is navigating technical development and internal corporate pressures. While the team has moved from the back of the grid toward the midfield, Ralf Schumacher has warned that the wider Volkswagen Group crisis could jeopardize the racing program if the team fails to achieve significant success before its 2030 championship target.

Driver Nico Hülkenberg recently secured the first points for the factory operation following engine refinements, though he noted the difficulty of developing a new power unit with limited resources. Despite these challenges, Chief Operating and Chief Technical Officer Mattia Binotto maintains a long-term focus on building technical expertise.

As the team currently sits 8th in the constructors' championship, Audi CEO Gernot Döllner reported “very great interest” in acquiring shares in the team. Döllner stated that while interest is high, there is no necessity to act hastily, noting that any future sale would follow a “very, very structured process” and that it would be “unthinkable” for Audi to hold only a minority stake.
