Bosnia and Herzegovina 2026 election preparations

In the lead-up to the 2026 general elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina, discussions have emerged regarding youth political engagement and the legality of election procedures.

Organizers of the Krug 99 Youth Forum addressed the issue of political apathy, noting a paradox where young people are vocal critics of social conditions but show low readiness for direct political action. Muhamed Hamzić, president of the forum, stated that political disinterest is often mistaken for neutrality, while Nevio Bruck of Youth Rights – M1 emphasized the need to integrate young people into decision-making processes beyond election cycles.

Concurrently, legal challenges have been raised regarding the Central Election Commission (CIK). Azra Zornić of the Association of Independent Intellectuals Krug 99 filed an appeal against the CIK concerning the design and content of the ballots for the Presidency. Zornić argued that the CIK used unconstitutional terminology and illegally divided electoral units. Following the dismissal of her appeal by the Appellate Panel, she characterized the decision as politically motivated and called for intervention from the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

In a related legal development, Azra Zornić has filed a new appeal with the Appellate Panel of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina regarding the CIK’s decision on the appearance and content of the 2026 presidential election ballots, maintaining that the current format is unconstitutional.
