Drug trafficking enforcement in Vietnam

Overview

Vietnamese authorities have conducted major operations targeting drug trafficking and usage networks.

In maritime operations near the Vietnam-Indonesia border, the C04 Drug Crime Investigation Department and the Vietnam Coast Guard dismantled a transnational ring. Officials intercepted a fishing vessel containing approximately 1.16 tons of ketamine disguised as tea bags, valued at an estimated 800 billion VND. The investigation led to the apprehension of suspect Trần Ngọc Danh, who reportedly attempted to bribe officials with 1.2 billion VND. Nine defendants have been prosecuted for drug transport and bribery.

In a separate urban investigation, Hanoi police dismantled a network following the arrest of a supplier of drug paraphernalia. The operation resulted in the seizure of approximately 7kg of methamphetamine, 1kg of ketamine, 83g of MDMA, and 117g of heroin, as well as a firearm. The investigation implicated nearly 100 individuals, including actress Kiều Thanh, who was reportedly found using drugs and using social media accounts to facilitate transactions for paraphernalia.
