Security operations in Jammu and Kashmir

Security forces in Jammu and Kashmir have implemented operational restructuring and intensified counter-terrorism activities. Initially, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) began preparing to assume counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism responsibilities at 21 locations within the Udhampur-Kathua belt, utilizing specialized CoBRA jungle-warfare teams. During this period, the Indian Army and Rashtriya Rifles maintained their existing roles to provide a layered security approach, while military leadership conducted readiness reviews in south Kashmir following operations such as ‘Operation Ashdar’ in Budgam.

Following these structural changes, security efforts intensified through joint operations. In the Udhampur district, a mission involving the White Knight Corps, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the CRPF resulted in the neutralization of two terrorists in the Brattal area. Additionally, military leadership conducted reviews in the Surankote sector of the Poonch district, focusing on maintaining dominance over the Pir Panjal Range and enhancing intelligence-driven coordination to prevent terrorist elements from gaining operational space.
