Severe burn incidents in Brazil

Overview

In early September 2026, two distinct incidents involving severe burns were reported in Brazil. In Águas de São Pedro, São Paulo, a maintenance technician died after an explosion at Fonte Almeida Salles left him with burns to 92% of his body; investigators are looking into whether accumulated gas caused the blast. Concurrently, in Londrina, Paraná, an elderly man was hospitalized in serious condition after being attacked with boiling water.

By mid-September, another severe burn incident occurred in Paranaguá, Paraná. An adolescent sustained second-degree burns over approximately 70% of his body following the explosion of a container holding flammable liquid. Emergency services stabilized the victim before transporting him to the Hospital Regional do Litoral. The cause of the ignition in Paranaguá remains unknown.
