Overview

Israeli military operations in southern Lebanon have continued despite a framework agreement signed in June intended to facilitate relative de-escalation.

In early September, Israeli airstrikes in Nabatieh al-Fawqa injured a journalist and a cameraman while they were preparing for a broadcast. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) acknowledged strikes in the Nabatieh region, targeting what they described as Hezbollah weapon depots and a command center, but denied intentionally targeting journalists, stating, “The IDF does not target uninvolved individuals or journalists under any circumstances.”

By mid-September, strikes in the area between Nabatieh and Zouetar resulted in the deaths of two men. The IDF has intensified operations in the Nabatieh region to target Hezbollah’s underground infrastructure. Authorities in Beirut report that Israeli military operations in Lebanon have caused more than 4,300 deaths since March, following a period of significant escalation triggered by Hezbollah rocket attacks.
