Community environmental cleanup initiatives in Italy

Overview

Local environmental cleanup initiatives have been organized across various Italian cities to improve urban decorum and promote civic engagement.

In late September, volunteers in Macerata conducted waste collection near the city’s medieval walls to enhance the area’s historical value. Simultaneously, in Foggia, the association ‘La Via della Felicità’ led a cleanup of Viale Giotto, collecting micro-waste to encourage responsible environmental behavior.

By early October, these community-led efforts continued in other regions. In Squillace, the municipal administration organized a collective cleaning day involving citizens and local businesses to clear waste and debris from the road leading to the Madonna del Ponte Sanctuary. In Cerignola, employees from a local McDonald’s joined a national anti-littering project to clean Piazza Plebiscito, removing dozens of kilograms of waste from sidewalks and flowerbeds.
