Femicide incidents in Brazil

Recent reports indicate separate instances of femicide in Brazil involving victims shot in the head by former partners.

In Taboão da Serra, police are searching for a 22-year-old man suspected of killing 19-year-old Ana Clara Soares de Oliveira. The suspect allegedly admitted to the killing via messages to the victim’s mother before fleeing on a motorcycle. The Public Security Secretariat has registered the case as a femicide.

In the Federal District, new details have emerged regarding the death of 30-year-old Mayara Stephany Varela de Almeida Sousa. Following an attack in Candangolândia, security footage captured the suspect, 40-year-old André Eduardo Alves da Silva, physically assaulting the victim with punches and kicks before firing shots to her head and chest.

The suspect, who is the father of Mayara’s three-year-old daughter, fled the scene and remains at large. The Civil Police are currently searching for him. Mayara’s family noted she had previously filed police reports against the suspect for verbal abuse and insults, and had recently sought legal action regarding child support payments. The case is being investigated as feminicide.
