The Simpsons movie sequel production

Overview

Details have emerged regarding a sequel to the 2007 film, currently referred to by the working title ‘The New Simpsons Movie’. Showrunner Matt Selman has confirmed the script is complete, describing the project as ‘S tier’. The film is scheduled for a theatrical release on September 3, 2027, following a previous scheduling shift from July 2027. The production has secured $21.9 million in tax credits through California’s film incentive program.

Creator Matt Groening and showrunner Matt Selman have addressed the long hiatus between films, noting that the intense exhaustion caused by the original production required significant recovery time for the writing and animation teams. While rumors suggest a plot involving the family fighting future versions of themselves, these claims remain unverified by Disney and 20th Century Studios.
