Lithuanian agricultural financial support measures
Overview
The Lithuanian government has implemented various financial support mechanisms for the agricultural and aquaculture sectors. Initially, the Ministry of Agriculture allocated an additional 15 million euros in subsidized loans to assist entities facing financial difficulties, bringing the total available funds for this measure to 65 million euros.
Following these loan provisions, the state opened applications for the ‘Investments in Agricultural Holdings’ program under the Agriculture and Rural Development Strategic Plan 2023–2027. This initiative provides non-repayable grants from the European Union and the Lithuanian state to fund large-scale modernization projects, such as the acquisition of new machinery, production buildings, and technologies. Applications for these grants are being accepted until November 30. Eligible applicants include individual farmers and legal entities, such as companies and cooperatives, provided the holding meets a minimum economic size criterion with a production standard value (PSV) of at least 30,001 EUR. Supported sectors include dairy and beef cattle, other livestock, pig and poultry farming, as well as fruit, berry, vegetable, flower, and herbal cultivation.
In addition to the large-scale projects, which can receive up to 1,000,000 EUR per project (or 2,000,000 EUR for recognized agricultural cooperatives), a simplified procedure has been introduced for specific crop growers. This includes producers of cereals, oilseeds, and legumes, who can access grants of up to 80,000 EUR per project. This specific fund allocates 3.6 million EUR to assist with equipment modernization and to support both the production and primary processing of agricultural products.
