Chicago Bears acquisition of Jeffery Simmons

Overview

The Chicago Bears acquired All-Pro defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons from the Tennessee Titans in a major trade. To secure the 29-year-old, Chicago sent 2027 and 2028 first-round draft picks and a 2027 fourth-round pick to Tennessee, receiving a 2028 fifth-round selection in return.

Simmons, a four-time Pro Bowler, joins the Bears to bolster their interior defensive line and support a Super Bowl run. General manager Ryan Poles noted that Simmons brings high-intensity leadership and accountability to the team. The trade is noted as a historic moment, as Simmons is the first defensive tackle since 1967 to be traded for multiple first-round picks. Simmons, who led all defensive tackles with 28 pressures earlier this season, is expected to create more opportunities for edge rusher Montez Sweat.

The Titans, holding a 1-7 record, accepted the offer to accelerate their rebuilding process. Following the trade, Tennessee coach Robert Saleh noted the team’s resilience as they move forward without their star defensive player.
