Kyoto autumn nighttime illumination events
Overview
Kyoto has scheduled several nighttime illumination events for late 2026.
In the Arashiyama district, the Tsukidoro light festival is set to run from September 30 to November 8, 2026. The event features lanterns crafted by local residents, fog installations, and a bamboo corridor designed to transform the bamboo forest into a nocturnal experience. The festival area includes both free-access and paid sections.
Additionally, Toji Temple has announced autumn foliage night illuminations running from October 31 to December 13, 2026. The event allows visitors to view approximately 200 illuminated maple trees and the reflection of the five-story pagoda in the Hyotan-ike pond. Special nighttime access is also provided to the National Treasure Kando and the Important Cultural Property Kodo to view the ‘Three-Dimensional Mandala’.
