DO Mondéjar 30th anniversary celebrations

The Denominación de Origen (DO) Mondéjar is marking its 30th anniversary through a series of institutional and commemorative events in Mondéjar, Spain. Scheduled activities for late August include official ceremonies, award presentations, a commemorative exhibition, guided tastings, a gastronomic fair, and musical performances.

To support the milestone, the Diputación de Guadalajara has increased its financial backing for the designation from €10,000 to €45,000 to assist with regional and national promotion. While the organization faces a decline in production volume—dropping from approximately six million liters in its early years to roughly 2.5 million liters currently due to farmland abandonment—president Enrique Segovia Torres stated that the focus is shifting from quantity to quality.

As the smallest denomination of origin in Spain, DO Mondéjar aims to leverage its size to maintain a close connection to its territory. Future objectives include ensuring generational renewal, protecting the viticultural landscape, and expanding market recognition both within and outside the province, with promotional activities also planned for Madrid.
