Abruzzo cultural and maritime heritage initiatives

Overview

The Abruzzo region is implementing various cultural and heritage initiatives focused on community engagement and historical preservation.

Initial efforts include the Piacere Abruzzo event, which features the ‘Andrea De Litio VR Experience’ to provide 360-degree views of Renaissance frescoes undergoing restoration in the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta. Additionally, the ‘Sguardi Plurali’ project at the Museo Nazionale d’Abruzzo (MUNDA) utilizes analog photography to promote urban regeneration and dialogue between urban centers and peripheral areas.

Further developments involve the establishment of the Network of Sea and Fishing Museums of Abruzzo. This network, formed through an agreement in Pescara involving local municipalities and organizations, aims to preserve maritime memory and fishing traditions. These efforts include connecting ecomuseums to share knowledge of local maritime language and culinary heritage, as well as reenacting the ‘sciabica’ fishing technique in Falconara Marittima to showcase historical coastal practices.
