Academic activities in Portuguese higher education

Academic institutions in Portugal have marked the start of the 2026/2027 academic year through international mobility programs and institutional milestones.

At the Universidade Politécnica de Setúbal (UNIPS), approximately 160 international students from 20 countries arrived for study and internship programs. This figure represents a doubling of the previous semester’s intake. Most participants are involved through the Erasmus+ program or the Ibero-American Cooperation initiative. To assist with integration, the university hosted “Integration Days” featuring cultural tours and social activities.

In Lisbon, the Universidade Politécnica de Lisboa (UPL) held its 9th “Welcome UPL” event at the Lisbon Superior Institute of Engineering (ISEL), welcoming nearly two thousand students. This event served as the first under the institution’s new identity. Additionally, the Institute for Higher Education (IES, I. P.) finalized signing ceremonies for Erasmus+ Education and Training funding, alongside agreements with organizations like ESN Portugal and the National Federation of Polytechnic Higher Education Student Associations (FNAEESP) to support civic participation and student empowerment.
