Accra water supply pipeline burst

Overview

A major 500mm-diameter water trunk main in western Accra burst during excavation work conducted by AWERCO Construction Ltd. The damage occurred while the company was digging underground storm drains between Kaneshie First Light and Hansonic Junction.

The burst caused flooding within the construction trench, which initially prevented Ghana Water Ltd (GWL) engineers from accessing the damaged section. Technical teams have been working to dewater the trench to facilitate repairs.

The disruption has affected water supply to several densely populated communities, including Mallam, Darkuman, Kaneshie, Mataheko, Korle Bu, Mamprobi, Dansoman Township, and Chorkor.
