Adam Troy Mann murder trial

Overview

The second-degree murder trial of Adam Troy Mann for the June 2024 death of Tori Dunn has reached closing arguments at the New Westminster Supreme Court.

Forensic evidence remains a cornerstone of the prosecution’s argument. RCMP National Forensics Laboratory biologist Janny Lau testified that blood found on a large kitchen knife recovered near the Port Kells area was a highly probable match to Dunn, stating the likelihood of it belonging to anyone else was ‘one in 290 quintillion’. Additional evidence presented includes a hoodie, a black toque, a pair of shoes, and a cellphone swab. To support the handling of these items, RCMP Sgt. Evelyn Hui testified regarding forensic identification protocols.

Earlier in the proceedings, the court heard from the victim’s partner, Trafford Wace, who reported hearing Dunn scream and seeing a man positioned against a wall in front of her upon rushing to the scene.

Adam Troy Mann has testified in his own defense, providing details regarding an upbringing in Windsor, Ontario, marked by poverty and physical abuse. Mann addressed his criminal history, including past convictions in Ontario and recent failures to comply with court orders in Abbotsford and Vancouver. Regarding the incident, Mann testified that he was unfamiliar with the area and had exited a bus approximately 2.4 kilometers from the victim's home following a disagreement with a passenger. He claimed he found a kitchen knife and a cellphone by the road that evening.

In closing arguments, defence lawyer Paul McMurray urged the jury to maintain the presumption of innocence, highlighting discrepancies between the initial suspect description provided by Trafford Wace and Mann’s actual appearance.
