Adana jeweler assassination and investigation

Overview

On October 4, 2026, Zahir Cız, chairman of the Cız Group and a prominent jeweler, was killed in an armed attack in the Seyhan district of Adana. Unidentified assailants fired approximately 7 to 8 shots at Cız and Hüseyin Altunbulduk in front of Cız’s business. While Cız succumbed to his injuries at a hospital, Altunbulduk sustained life-threatening abdominal wounds.

Initial investigations focused on potential links to organized crime, specifically the “Baygaralar” group, following reports of a leaked FaceTime call involving an alleged group member threatening Cız. Authorities determined the motive was likely linked to a conflict with the “Bayğaralar” organized crime group, which allegedly ordered the killing.

By October 11, police apprehended a suspect, Osman A., in Kuşadası, Aydın. The suspect, who had 13 prior criminal records, was intercepted during a dawn operation while allegedly preparing to flee the country by boat. In total, 10 individuals have been taken into custody in connection with the incident, including several suspects believed to have assisted in the attempted escape.
