ADEPA initiatives regarding journalism and AI

Overview

The Association of Argentine Journalistic Entities (ADEPA) has taken steps to address the impact of artificial intelligence on the journalism industry through international cooperation and local training initiatives.

Initially, ADEPA joined the SPUR Coalition (Standards for Publisher Usage Rights), an international group including the BBC and The Associated Press. This coalition aims to establish technical standards, such as the Content Telemetry Standard, to help publishers control and license how AI platforms utilize their content.

Subsequently, during its 64th General Assembly in Tucumán, ADEPA focused on press freedom and newsroom technological transformations. As part of this assembly, ADEPA partnered with the Google News Initiative and Fathm Ltd. to launch the ‘AI Build Sprint’ program. This initiative provides media outlets in northwest Argentina with practical training to develop AI prototypes for tasks such as data journalism and research.
