Overview
The AFA Disciplinary Tribunal has issued several player suspensions following incidents in Argentine football.
In late September, the Tribunal handed two-match suspensions to San Lorenzo midfielder Manuel Insaurralde and Talleres striker Agustín Álvarez Martínez due to red cards received during Torneo Clausura matches.
Following the Supercopa Internacional final on September 26 in Santiago del Estero, the Tribunal issued provisional suspensions to Fabricio Iacovich of Estudiantes de La Plata and Gonzalo Agustín Sández of Rosario Central due to physical altercations. The Tribunal also requested a formal report from the Professional Football League delegate regarding locker room incidents mentioned by referee Darío Herrera.
On October 16, the Tribunal expanded its sanctions following the Supercopa final. Estudiantes President Juan Sebastián Verón received a three-month suspension for entering the pitch without authorization and using “insults and violent language” toward referee Darío Herrera. Vice president Pascual Caiella and sporting director Marcos Angeleri also received three-month suspensions for their involvement in post-match incidents. Furthermore, Estudiantes was fined the equivalent of 500 match tickets due to infractions by club officials and delegation members in the field and locker room areas.
