Africa aviation sector growth projections

Boeing’s Commercial Market Outlook forecasts significant expansion for Africa’s aviation sector through 2045. The continent’s commercial aircraft fleet is projected to more than double, increasing from 755 aircraft in 2025 to 1,625 by 2045, requiring the delivery of 1,165 new planes.

This growth is attributed to a young, urbanizing population and rising demand for travel. Intra-African passenger traffic is expected to grow by 6.5% annually, while connections between Africa and the Middle East are forecast to increase by 7.1% per year. The majority of new deliveries are expected to be single-aisle aircraft, totaling 870 units.

The expansion is anticipated to drive a $140 billion aviation-services market, encompassing maintenance, repairs, overhaul, airport infrastructure, and air navigation. To meet this demand, the industry will require approximately 75,000 additional professionals, including 22,000 pilots, 25,000 technicians, and 28,000 cabin crew members. Additionally, the cargo fleet is projected to grow from 60 to 150 aircraft, supported by e-commerce and agricultural exports.
