African nations' UN human rights review engagement
Overview
Namibia and Mozambique have both engaged with the United Nations Universal Periodic Review (UPR) process during its fourth cycle.
Namibia saw the Human Rights Council adopt its UPR outcome by consensus. The country supported 255 of the 290 recommendations provided by 111 delegations, focusing on areas such as children’s rights, gender equality, and discrimination prevention. These measures are to be incorporated into a National Implementation Plan.
Mozambique accepted 284 of the 292 recommendations issued during the review. Following a national consultation process, the government chose to note eight recommendations, which Minister of Justice Mateus Saize stated require further national dialogue and legal analysis.
