Agentic payment technology developments in India

Overview

During the Global Fintech Fest in India, new developments in agentic payments were introduced, utilizing AI to execute transactions on behalf of users.

Initially, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) introduced the Unified Agentic Protocol (UAP). This protocol allows AI agents to complete purchases using cryptographic proof of authorization, operating within specific user-defined permissions and spending limits. Cashfree Payments has already launched this service in partnership with Jio.

Following this, Cruise Money unveiled India’s first agentic payments card. This system functions as an AI money companion that uses a chat-based consent flow to plan and execute purchases. Unlike basic limit-based systems, this technology calculates a ‘Safe to Spend’ figure by analyzing income, bills, and savings goals to optimize cash flow and rewards. The virtual prepaid card is to be issued by LivQuik Technology (India) Private Limited with API infrastructure from M2P Fintech.
