Agricultural and industrial fires in France

Overview

In early August 2026, several fires involving agricultural equipment were reported in northern France. In Offin, Pas‑de‑Calais, a combine harvester fire spread to straw bales and an agricultural building. Shortly after, in Gentelles, Somme, a tractor fire ignited a hangar containing approximately twenty cattle; emergency crews rescued the animals and treated an owner for minor burns.

Later in the month, the focus shifted to industrial fires. An organic waste recovery site in Branges experienced a fire in a compost storage unit, which was contained using specialized foam and heavy machinery. Additionally, a sawmill in Val de Briey suffered significant economic damage after a nighttime fire destroyed equipment and damaged the roof, though firefighters prevented the blaze from spreading further.
