Ahome social protection and safety initiatives

Overview

In Ahome, Sinaloa, authorities have initiated several programs focused on gender violence prevention and child protection. The Secretariat of Women (SEMUJERES) activated prevention programs in response to the municipality’s gender alert status, conducting outreach in schools and public spaces to address inequality.

In support of child safety, the National System for the Integral Protection of Children and Adolescents (SIPINNA) has implemented teacher training protocols to detect risks such as bullying and domestic violence. While initial reports indicated over 1,700 teachers had been trained, subsequent updates noted that over 600 teachers had received training as part of an awareness campaign scheduled to begin in September to prevent sexual abuse and maltreatment in schools.

Building on these efforts, SIPINNA announced the launch of an ‘Awareness Campaign on the Gravity of Sexual Abuse and Child Maltreatment’ scheduled to begin on September 7. Executive Secretary Elizabeth Chía Galaviz stated the initiative aims to provide children and adolescents with tools to identify risk situations and understand how to request help. The campaign is being conducted in coordination with the Secretariat of Public Education and the municipal Direction of Education. SIPINNA continues to maintain permanent prevention and training activities, working alongside the Secretariat of Public Education and Culture (SEPyC) to implement protocols for the eradication of violence and sexual abuse.
