AI and surveillance technology adoption in Brazil

Brazil is seeing an increased integration of artificial intelligence and real-time monitoring technologies across both private and public security sectors.

In the private sector, security firms like White Segurança are shifting from reactive camera recording to proactive AI-driven models. These systems analyze live video feeds to detect suspicious behaviors—such as unauthorized vehicle activity or unusual movement—and alert monitoring centers for immediate intervention.

Public security agencies are also deploying advanced technological tools to combat crime. In Belo Horizonte, the ‘Muralha BH’ program has integrated municipal cameras with federal facial recognition platforms, leading to the arrest of individuals wanted for various crimes including theft, robbery, and drug trafficking.

In Paraná, the ‘Olho Vivo’ platform, developed in partnership with the startup Pax, has significantly expanded its impact. Since beginning operations in December 2025, the system has assisted in resolving 1,885 cases, contributing to 1,300 arrests and the recovery of 557 vehicles. Utilizing 972 cameras, the technology performs real-time license plate reading and vehicle identification, including color and model. The system also supports semantic searches using natural language, allowing officers to locate suspects based on specific descriptions such as clothing or vehicle details like dents and stickers.

A study by LCA Consultoria found that the Paraná tool is significantly more effective per installed camera than the security program in São Paulo, noting it is ‘21 times more effective at capturing fugitives, 43 times more effective in flagrant arrests, and 108 times more effective in vehicle recovery.’ The state now plans to expand the network to 1,500 cameras and implement facial recognition technology.
